Meet the Practitioner!

Soñée Newman was born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, not very far northwest of Philadelphia (Fly Eagles Fly!). She lived for a short time in middle Tennessee in her middle school years. However, she spent several years in the Carolinas and set up practice in 2014 right outside of Charlotte, NC. Feeling a call to rural life and wanting to serve a community not previously accustomed to acupuncture, she finally moved to the Rickman/Monterey, TN area in 2016.

Soñée began her studies in healing and medicine at the Pennsylvania State University. She was accepted into the very selective and rigorous Athletic Training program where she worked with seasoned Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists and Doctors serving various student athletes on, as well as off campus at other schools. Her favorite sports teams she was able to work with are track and field, tennis, football and volleyball, although she loves all sports!

During her last years at Penn State and after graduation in 2004 she worked with child athletes at several summer football camps run by NFL players. Once moving to the Carolinas she even spent time teaching pre-K to 1st grade children in the Charlotte-Mecklenberg school system as an assistant and substitute teacher. She also spent time teaching children, teenagers and adults abroad in Incheon, South Korea as an ESL teacher. Soñee is now the mother of 2 young children who appreciate that mommy can help them.

Beginning in 2008 she spent a year studying Traditional Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM, Now Pacific College of Health and Science), in California where Acupuncturists are primary care providers. While in California, she also attended Mueller College, a well respected school of Business and Holistic Health in San Diego. In 2009, she received a certificate as a massage technician. She transferred to Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, NC to continue her Chinese Medical training in Classical Chinese Medicine. While there Soñée and her classmates had the unique opportunity to provide weekly care to the homeless population of Asheville. She completed a comprehensive and intense 4 year Master of Science degree in 2013.

After completing 4 very strenuous board exams, Soñée is a certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine), by the national accreditation board, National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She is also licensed to practice in the state of Tennessee.

Soñee's understanding of the principles and techniques of Oriental Medicine, as well as Western medical theory and pathology, is vast from her undergraduate studies, graduate studies, personal study, and continuing education classes.
